Can I renew my New York driver license online?
Yes, if you are keeping the same document type (Standard, REAL ID or Enhanced) and pass an eye test from an approved provider; upgrades need an office visit.

Yes, in many cases. The New York DMV says you can renew online if you hold an Enhanced or REAL ID license, or if you are keeping a Standard license; your document type does not change. You need to pass an eye test with an approved provider (the DMV Vision Registry lists them) or have a medical professional fill out a Vision Test Report (MV-619).
You have to renew at a DMV office if you are switching from a Standard to an Enhanced or REAL ID license, want a new photo, want a different license class, have never been issued a Social Security number, or have a temporary visitor date on your license. Renewal is allowed from 1 year before to 2 years after your license expires. The DMV lists renewal fees by license class on its page. Confirm with the NY DMV before renewing.
